About Vernon
Vernon is a dedicated WebApp for diggers and DJs on the hunt for hidden gems and unknown top tracks.
Every track entered Vernon under 30% popularity on Spotify or Deezer, or was hand-picked by a curator. No charts, no algorithmic echo chamber: just electronic music that deserves more ears.
The number next to the Spotify logo on each sleeve is that track's popularity on Spotify, from 0 to 100, based on how much and how recently it has been played. For the newest releases it sits next to the Deezer logo instead: their popularity on Deezer, on the same 0 to 100 scale. The lower it is, the more obscure the track.
Named after Virginie Despentes' iconic novel Vernon Subutex. A tribute to the legendary Parisian record store owner and his shop, Revolver.
How it works
- 01
Pick a genre
Choose a genre and, if you like, a release year.
- 02
Hold to preview
Hold a sleeve to hear the track. Let go and it stops.
- 03
Like into your crate
Keep what you love. Your crate is yours to build.
- 04
Export & share
Send your crate to your streaming library through Soundiiz.
Rating sleeves
Anyone can rate any sleeve, no account needed, after listening to its preview for 5 seconds. The stars under each sleeve show the average rating; click them to give yours.
- 1★ Pass
- 2★ Okay
- 3★ Like
- 4★ Love
- 5★ Addicted
Rankings are always per genre: in Techno, “Top rated” only compares Techno sleeves with each other. Pick one in the Sort row, under the genres.
Top rated
The best average first. A sleeve with a single 5★ can rank high here.
Most rated
The sleeves that got the most ratings first: what many diggers have listened to.
Both together
A weighted average: a sleeve’s score is pulled toward the genre’s average until it has enough ratings. One lone 5★ no longer beats a sleeve loved by many.
Grades
The more you take part, the more you can dig. Your grade shows what you can do on Vernon and on Discord.
| Grade | How to get there | What you can do | Crate dig |
|---|---|---|---|
| Visitor | No account needed | Browse, preview, like, rate, export and share. | None |
| Member | Log in with Discord | Rate sleeves. | 3 a day, 8 h apart |
| Digger | 10 ratings and an account older than 7 days | Propose your finds to the community on Discord. | 9 a day, 20 min apart |
| Regular | 50 ratings and an account older than 30 days | Everything a Digger can, with a bigger crate dig. | 30 a day, 3 min apart |
| Curator | Appointed by us | Listens to proposals, helps decide what enters Vernon, and adds a hand-picked track a day. | 30 a day, 3 min apart |
Member, Digger and Regular are automatic: rate sleeves, and you move up once you reach the ratings and the account age above. Curators are always appointed by us, because they decide what enters Vernon. Your Discord role follows your grade automatically, as long as you logged in with the Discord account you use on the server.
Community
Vernon has a Discord server: ask the community to rate a sleeve, propose a track, report a suspected AI artist, or just talk about music.

AI detection
Tracks are screened with the SH Labs AI music detector. A flagged artist is only listed as an AI artist after a human review: the detector's scores are never published. When deciding, the team also checks whether the artist is on the AI artist list maintained by CennoxX (thanks for keeping it up to date), as a second opinion, never the deciding one. The list is public: AI artists (also as JSON).
Genre check
Each new track's genre is also checked by ear, with the Essentia models of the Music Technology Group, Universitat Pompeu Fabra (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0). A track that does not seem electronic, or seems to be in the wrong genre, is hidden until the team has reviewed it.
